About the Rome-Floyd County Humane Society

Mission Statement

To emphasize spaying and netuering to prevent unwanted animals; to educate the community on being responsible pet owners; to increase pet adoptions; and to have financial assistance available for the health and welfare of animals.

Who is the Rome-Floyd County Humane Society?

The quality of life for people in Rome has been well-established ("#1 small city in the Southeast," "small city with the best health care in America"), but, although you and I care for our pets in a responsible manner, there are literally thousands of orphaned animals living on the streets in our community with none of the basic necessities of life. For the majority of them, this is a one-way ticket to an abused life and cruel death. Some are lucky and are caught by the caring and brave people who work at Animal Control, yet most of those animals (tens of thousands each year) are euthanised due to a lack of funding, space and availability of good homes.

We volunteer to do our best to provide as many solutions to this problem as we can. To date, most of our funds have been used to assist with adoptions and with spaying and neutering. We want to continue in our efforts, and to accelerate our financial assistance to those in the community who wish to provide good homes and good care for the animals that presently are neglected. We are working in conjunction with Animal Control and local veterinarians to accomplish the goals outlined in our mission statement above.
